General Disaster Assistance

For Native Hawaiians impacted by the March 2026 storms and flooding

 

Grant Amounts:

Up to $15,000 for owner-occupied homeowners

Up to $7,500 for residential renters

This Program Supports:

  • Native Hawaiian Owner-Occupied Homeowners

  • Native Hawaiian Residential Renters

 

Funded by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and administered by the Hawaiian Council, this program is providing financial assistance to support recovery for Native Hawaiians whose homes or farms were significantly impacted by the recent storms.

  • Applicants must have experienced Major Damage or Destroyed property:

    • Major Damage: Property requires extensive repairs and is not safe to occupy without repairs

    • Destroyed: Property is a total loss and cannot be repaired

    Displaced is defined as being unable to live in your residence due to storm-related damage.

    Damage level may be determined by the County, insurance, or verified through inspection.

  • Applicants Must:

    • Be a resident of the State of Hawaiʻi

      Be Native Hawaiian and registered in the Hawaiian Registry Program, or willing to register

    • Provide proof of storm or flood-related impact

    • Meet damage criteria (Major Damage or Destroyed)

    Additional Conditions:

    • Limit one award per physical address

  • 1. Identification & Residency

    • Valid government-issued photo ID (State ID or driver’s license)

    • Proof of Hawaiʻi residency (lease, utility bill, or mortgage statement)

    2. Connection to Impacted Property

    • Documentation linking you to the property, such as:

      • Lease or rental agreement

      • Utility bill

      • Mortgage statement

      • Vehicle registration or bank statement

    3. Proof of Native Hawaiian Ancestry

    • Preferred: OHA Hawaiian Registry ID card or approval email

    • If not registered:

      • Birth certificate showing Hawaiian ancestry

      • A recent photo of yourself

    4. Proof of Damage

    • One or more of the following:

      • Photos of impacted property

      • Insurance claim documentation

      • County damage determination (Major or Destroyed)

      • Inspection by Hawaiian Council staff (if needed)

      • If damage level cannot be verified through documentation, Hawaiian Council reserves the right to conduct an inspection.
